8 Questions With: Jane Moon

Jane Moon is a talented, entrepreneurial, and incredibly hard-working Angeleno, who heads up three distinct women’s clothing labels; Lucca Couture, A+Ro, and Isabel Lu. Of the three labels, Lucca Couture is arguably the most established, available in a hefty 600+ doors nationwide, including top tier accounts such as Kitson LA, and respected chains like Urban Outfitters. A-list celebs including Taylor Swift, Kelly Osbourne, and Jessica Alba have been spotted wearing the label. This year the brand added a collection of accessories to its impressive range. Any clothing label CEO would be happy to have this kind of successful operation, but Jane also finds the time to run A+RO, a contemporary knit line; as well as the Isabel Lu label, a brand built around classic silhouettes with an innovative touch, developed by designer Sophia Kim. Read on to learn more about what inspires Jane, and what she’s got going on with each of her labels.

What are you currently working on?
Right now, I’m finishing up Spring and working Summer of 2013, for all three of my brands (Lucca Couture, Isabel Lu, and A+Ro). I’m also excited to have started a few new projects. One is a new division of Lucca Couture, “L.C.T. by Lucca Couture” – a fashion knit line to launch in Spring 2013, in NYC, at the Coterie Show. The other project is growing my presence online in social media as well as retail.

How would you describe your job?
Fast, multi-faceted, and grueling, but at the end of it all, I enjoy it as it’s a great challenge to make it all come together and be successful season after season.

What does your average work day look like?
Venti coffee, tons of emails, followed by meetings between the different departments, and a little bit of production (i.e. fittings), marketing and PR strategy, sales, and financial review…

How long have you been running Lucca Couture?
Since 2002.

Where do you find inspiration?
The best is people-watching, especially during travel, surfing the web of course, shopping (I love vintage stores in Europe, Spitalfields in London is always fun), and other arts media to translate into clothing.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grow up?
An artist, but seriously I have zero talent in that field!

What are you reading at the moment?
I just finished Insurgent, the sequel to Divergent.

What’s your favorite place in LA?
I like the Silver Lake area because it’s close to home and work. I just recently went to the Gastropub Mohawk Bend – what’s better there is an American Apparel store right next-door so you can shop while you wait.
