Continued Foray into 3D Printing

3D isn’t just a fad it seems, It’s here to stay and it’s getting into the hands of very creative people.

In this first video we have the self proclaimed “World’s first 3D printed skateboard”. A Dutch artist who won a 3D printer in a contest decided to print his own skateboard with a sculptural texture on the bottom of the board.

And then we have a video of a project by Andreas Bhend and Samuel Bernier who took the idea of the “Ikea hack” and added a 3D printed aspect to it. Using the Frosta stool readily available at ikea and some simple printed pieces they reconstructed the stool into a children’s kick bike.

Recently MakerBot released the next steps into the future of the 3D platform, the MakerBot Digitizer. It’s the 3D version of a scanner, now people have the ability to scan items, modify them and then print out their own customized versions of some of their favorite objects. This will open new doors for designers, crafters and professionals alike.

I look forward to seeing what the 3D printing future holds, and what kind of creativity will come.
