Homemade Faraday cage

Homemade Faraday cage

Allegedly, NSA whistle blower, Edward Snowden, recently ordered a few Chinese lawyers to place their cellphones inside of a refrigerator before sitting down for dinner. The purpose of this was to create a sort of homemade faraday cage that would block any incoming/outgoing service from the cellphones.

So, Michael Colombo over at MAKE magazine was curious of this claim and decided to test this theory out. Lo and behold… it did not hold up. Instead, a designer in counter-surveillance mentioned that a cocktail shaker works much better as a faraday cage. Long story short? The next time you need to hide from anyone, ahem, the government, go ahead and buy yourself a cocktail shaker (or two) to slot your cell in.
