How to be American-born Japanese

“American-born Japanese Child” aired on Fuji TV’s “Let’s Play with Mama! Pin Pon Pan” (ママとあそぼう!ピンポンパン) sometime before March 1982, when the show went off the air. It’s written by Minami Rambow, a prolific composer (for kids and otherwise) whose credits include a children’s record where a ditty called “A Cat Named Cat” is followed by a hard swinger called “Rock ‘n’ Roll on Alcohol.”

The girl in this song overcomes barriers in the country of her people by developing a taste for ramen, tempura and speaking Japanese–would it were so easy!
