Just For Kicks

Kickstarter, as you’ve surely heard, is a platform for securing “crowd funding” to support creative projects. Founded with VC and angel investments in 2008, they’ve funded an impressive array of projects since, including film, music, and publishing. The Pebble E-Paper Watch recently became the company’s most heavily-funded project, with over $10 million in backing. This was after failing to attract interest from more traditional investors. If you’re looking for some Kickstarter success yourself, Inspired Magazine just published a short article on achieving Kickstarter gold, as told by Dan Freschl, who has managed to crowd fund Bosavi; a lightweight headlamp design. And on a related note, Imprint just had a meeting with the two talented guys behind Hiya, another successfully funded Kickstarter endeavor. They’ve created a line of custom made imported green tea bags, which you can use to make tea without using hot water. It’s amazingly inventive, and more importantly, delicious too.
