Nike co-founder and Chairman Emeritus Phil Knight and his wife Penelope have donated 1 billion dollars worth in Nike stock to an undisclosed charity. The sizeable donation roughly equates to 12 million shares of Nike. The generous donation is about 3.1% of Knight’s net worth and 0.7% of Nike’s outstanding shares
This isn’t unfamiliar territory for the Knights as they’ve donated 1 billion dollars in the recent past to their alma mater, the University of Oregon, as well as millions to Stanford University.
