Spirit of The City Awakens NYC

Spirit of The City Awakens NYC

Showcased at this year’s NYCxDesign festival, London based studio United Visual Artists (UVA) installed Spirit of the City, an immersive art installation based at A/D/O in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

The gold-mirrored towers sit nine feet high that rotate, displaying a change in reflections and direction of light mimicking the pace of New York City; based on real-time data such as traffic and energy consumption. Visitors are encouraged to walk through the exhibit that UVA designer Maximo Recio compares to “exploring and trekking through Manhattan’s glass skyscrapers.”

“We wanted to do an installation inspired by New York City. It’s about the way that you navigate urban environments, and how in the city there is loads of information and you can feel overwhelmed in a way but also very empowered, familiar and included.”

United Visual Artists is a design and art group founded by Matt Clark in 2003, notably known for their site-specific installations and performative projects. A/D/O is a collaborative creative space and accelerator founded by MINI focused on design.

Spirit of the City will be open to the public until 2 September 2018 at A/D/O. Head over to A/D/O’s official website to learn more.
